Hedgehog and Bunny cafe - Roppongi
If the balloon out front is inflated the place is open! |
Before we get into all the cuteness, be aware that they do take reservations here. This was a last-minute idea for us, just a few hours before we had to take the train to Narita. Despite having no reservations we were still able to quickly make it inside the cafe.
We were ushered up to the second floor where, while parting with our yen, we were greeted by bunnies standing on their hind legs (see photos below)! Yes, there was hind leg bunny standing going on right before us! Who could resist this kind of cuteness? Well, us of course, after all we were there to see hedgehogs, right, not bunnies? Repeat after me -- resist the bunnies, resist those adorable bunnies . . .
Look, even the little one on the left is trying to stand on his hind legs! |
We stayed strong and went upstairs to the hedgehogs . . .
The cafe was small and clean, and there was room for about 20 people max. We were allowed thirty minutes with the hedgehogs, though I think the staff is pretty liberal with timing.
First, we had to disinfect your hands. Second, we had to put on thick leather gloves. Wait a second, my gloves were too small. Okay, I got another pair, slightly bigger. Now I'm feeling like OJ since I'm barely able to squeeze my left hand into the glove. One glove on, one half on, it was time to reach for the hedgehogs below.
Look at those spiky bundles of joy. |
But surprise, most of them were just trying to avoid the customers (out of sight, out of mind).
There was one very big hedgehog that was truly sleeping. When I picked him up he was in the very traditional, iconic, full ball pose that we all expect from hedgehogs. He was huge and absolutely adorable.
Then we were given our hedgehog treats. What is that? Live mealworms. Pick them up with tweezers and put it in front the hedgehog's face and you have an immediate friend. All our new little prickly buddies got at least two juicy worms to chomp on.
Oh yeah, and while you're in the mystical world of hedgehogs all of a sudden a fox with a run of the shop will pop up out of nowhere. This place is wild!
In case you'd like the take a hedgehog home . . . |
Look at those adorable bunnies!
We arrived in the bunny area right at feeding time. Hint: You don't want to interrupt a bunny's meal time. |
This was my second bunny. My first bunny wouldn't stay still for a second so I didn't get a clear picture of it. |
Hedgehogs are located on the third floor, while bunnies (and cash register/check-in) are on the second floor. At the time of writing this it costed about $32 USD per couple (with treats) per species, or $64 USD for both bunnies and hedgehogs.
By the way, I can't tell you much about the actual drinks at the cafe. While there were beverage dispensers on both floors I didn't see anyone drinking anything. This makes sense because there are probably very few people willing to give up their brief petting time, which requires removal of gloves and/or blanket with pee pad. Don't worry, there's a FamilyMart about 50 feet down the road if you're really thirsty for liquid. But trust me, your thirst for cuteness will be fully satisfied!
